Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar was discharged from Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday after completing a three-day treatment regimen for a chest and respiratory infection. The 85-year-old political leader returned to his South Mumbai residence following the discharge.
Pawar had been admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night, according to Dr. Pratit Samdani at Breach Candy Hospital, who stated that the former Union minister was in a stable condition. Doctors cleared him for discharge after his discomfort subsided and health parameters remained stable during observation.
The admission followed an earlier stint at Pune's Ruby Hall Clinic. Pawar was initially admitted to the Pune facility on November 2 following complaints of cough and pleuritic chest pain. He was discharged from there on November 4 and transferred to Mumbai later that same day.
During his hospitalization, several prominent political figures visited the former minister. On Friday night, Congress leaders Sushilkumar Shinde and Balasaheb Thorat, along with NCP leader Dilip Walse-Patil, visited the hospital to meet him. Earlier on Friday, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani also paid a visit to Breach Candy Hospital.
Pawar’s daughter, NCP SP MP Supriya Sule, arrived at the hospital on Friday to see her father. She had previously addressed the media regarding his condition, stating that he was undergoing medical tests and that all his health parameters were stable.
On Thursday, NCP leader Praful Patel visited Pawar at the hospital. Patel described the visit as a courtesy call to pay respects to the "esteemed Shri Sharad Pawar Saheb" and inquire about his health.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke with Pawar on Wednesday to enquire about his well-being, according to IANS. Vitthal Maniyar, a family friend and close associate of the politician, confirmed the phone call outside the hospital. Maniyar reported that the Prime Minister warmly urged Pawar to prioritize his health and take adequate rest.
Pawar’s condition remained stable throughout his stay, allowing doctors to discharge him as a precautionary measure after the three-day treatment period.
