Roma goalkeeper Svilar sidelined for a month with broken finger
Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar has been ruled out of action for at least a month with a broken finger, coach Gian Piero Gasperini said Saturday.
"He suffered a stress fracture following a knock in training," Gasperini said on the eve of Roma's league match at Como.
"It will take at least a month to heal. The doctors will decide whether to insert a support, such as a screw, but that would push the recovery time beyond the next international break. It's a blow, but in very long seasons, unexpected setbacks like this can happen," he added.
Svilar, who has one cap for Serbia, could miss six Serie A matches and three Champions League games, including the home match against Real Madrid next Wednesday and a trip to Manchester United on November 3.
However, the 27-year-old Belgian-born player should be fit for the game away to European champions Paris Saint-Germain on November 25.
Svilar has played for Roma since 2022, taking over as their number one goalkeeper at the start of the 2024-25 season.
Italian Pierluigi Gollini, who previously had stints at Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham, will step up in his absence.
Roma are top of Serie A, equal on 13 points with Inter Milan and Lazio, but ahead on goal difference.
